Congratulations to our Chocolate Chip Scholars!

The Independent School admission process has a reputation for being daunting and is not for the faint at heart.  Many of our families began the process by attending our Fall Boutique Recruitment Event. After school visits, student and family interviews and other opportunities to get to know the schools, they toughed it out and made it through and lived to tell about the experience.

Well the acceptances letters are in and it's time to celebrate!  Join us over the coming days as we shout out our Chocolate Chip Kids!

Congratulations to Rachel (one of my son's BFF's) who has been admitted and will be attending Riverdale Country Day School in the Fall!!

I'm especially proud of her because I've watched her grow over the years into sweet, well-mannered, self-disciplined and wise young lady.  She is truly the "mother hen" of her class!  Kudos to her wonderful parents and The Milestone School- where good beginnings never end.

Yeah for Ian (one of my daughters long time friends)!!  He's on his way to the Hackley School this fall!!  Ian is a product of The Milestone School and Harlem Succeess Academy.

We have a special connection to Ian and his family because we're blessed to be apart of the same spiritual family.  Special shout out to Christian Cultural Center!
Congratulations Ian!  Keep up the excellent work!

There are more to come.  Know a Chocolate Chip kid that we should feature.  Post a comment on the blog below and we'll be sure to collect the information.

RIISE & Chocolate Chip Present A Fall Boutique Recruitment Event

Let's face it, selecting an educational institution is one of the toughest decisions we will make for our children.  We go on tours and network with other parents to find what we hope will be the perfect choice.  We look for answers to questions like...

How is the school performing?  Does the school have a strong reputation for academics?  Are the teachers using up to date methodologies?  Will my child fit in?  Will he/she be treated fairly?  Will he/she be challenged?  Will this school prepare him/her for a bright future and help shape them into a well-rounded intellectual?

I've spoken with so many STRESSED out parents, overwhelmed and almost paralyzed by the pressure of making THE best decision for their child(ren)'s academic future.

As a parent considering Independent Schools for my own children, I am excited to share this unique opportunity with you to hear directly from administrators, parents and students about what makes Independent School education so valuable.

Is it right for your child? Come see for yourself.

Good Beginnings Never End.....Pre-K & Kindergarten Families

Doesn't my little guy look so handsome! This pictures was taken moments after The Milestone School's 30th Annual Recital. I can't believe that he's moving on from the 3 year old nursery class to being one of the oldest kids in the lower school in the fall. Where has the time gone! While we celebrate his success (phonics sounds, counting, etc.) we're focused on how to help him retain everything over the summer, so he's ready for Pre-K in September.

So if your like me and your child will be entering Pre-K or Kindergarten this fall you won't want to miss this teleconference (don't you just love technology:)). Our friends at RIISE: Resources in Independenct School Education will host:

"A Conversation About Beginnings--Beyond Nursery School"

Tuesday, June 15, 7:30pm – 8:30pm.

Join me on this teleconference (you must RSVP to get call details) to gain a fresh perspective on the early primary years. The discussion will be led by Jonina Herter, Director of the Early Childhood Programming at Riverdale Country School in NY, who has over 20 years of experience developing children in the classroom. She will answer questions and share her thoughts on what to expect and the great ways you can acheive success by partnering with your school!

Resources. Research. Retention. http://www.4riise.org/

RIISE serves as a member organization that supports the retention of families of color in independent schools. RIISE helps families navigate the complex dynamics of an independent school environment. They partner with independent schools to help foster an inclusive and equitable environment for Families of Color and help our children navigate this environment.

RIISE provides a platform for the hard work that families must do around race and ethnicity that will inevitably support healthy and successful matriculation at independent schools.

RIISE delivers by ensuring that families of color will be empowered to become vital, active, committed and fulfilled members of their school communities by instilling a sense of belonging. This vested interest and level of retention will directly benefit the vision of Independent Schools to maintain and increase a diverse student body representative of our global community.
